This past Monday, hundreds of Black innovators, creatives, and tech leaders shaping the future of the industry gathered to meet at DOM Lounge for a night of networking and connection.
The popular event is a part of the Afro Tech Meetup Series, taking place throughout the year, leading up to the popular conference returning October 27-31, 2025, to the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas.
Attendees had the opportunity to network and explore connections with professionals making waves in the Big Apple, ranging from group activities to fireside chats led by industry professionals, plus the nonstop entertainment kept the vibes booming all night.
I chatted with a few attendees who spoke to their shared elation of the environment, networking, and the possibility of attending the conference in the fall.
Aleah Green, a Marketing Strategist at IBM, spoke to the excitement of connecting with new people in the industry. "I'm most looking forward to new career opportunities and growing my network and my net worth."
Amour Boyce, a Senior Associate at Group M, agreed: "I appreciate spaces like these, created by us for us. Theoretically, I just hope to meet new people and learn about different paths in life and really just create connections!"
Guests were also treated to a signed copy of "Rewrite Your Rules: The Journey to Success in Less Time with More Freedom," written by Blavity co-founder and CEO Morgan DeBaun.
"I love what Ms. Morgan does," stated Steve Jean Baptiste, Cloud Cybersecurity Analyst at American Express. "A highlight of the night was definitely meeting her, for sure."
This event was definitely a highlight of my week, and being able to be in a room with so many accomplished individuals was both inspiring and motivating.
System Support Specialist at Blue Owl Capital, Razaq Andrew, put it best: "My favorite part of the night is the people. It's a vibrant environment, and easy to network since everyone is so sociable. Like-minded people in the same industry, but also in other industries, is always a plus. I recommend this event to anyone who can make it."
